The New Moon Awakens our Darkness

On Friday, July 5th, the New Moon darkened our skies. Landing smack dab in the middle of the sign of Cancer at 14 degrees and sandwiched between two Full Moon’s in Capricorn (our last full moon was 1 degree in Capricorn/initiation the next is at 29 degrees/closure). It’s theme, “Connecting with and following our hearts.”

The New Moon reminds us that darkness is not a bad thing, because, in its purity, our darkness brings the light of a new beginning.

Just like waking up each morning brings the sunshine of a new day, Monday brings the excitement of a new week, and New Year’s Day opens the door to a brand-new year filled with opportunity and growth. The New Moon is a wakeup call to all that we have done and all that we continue to want to become….

Accompanied by Saturn in retrograde (started June 29th), this New Moon also brings complexity. Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn – Saturn is our main Karmic planet – a teacher. Saturn asks us to identify themes and patterns of behavior that may have resurfaced in June at the time of the Summer Solstice, The Full Moon and Saturn’s entrance into Retrograde.

These themes and patterns need our attention and work over the upcoming months till 11/15 (when Saturn leaves Retrograde) – for example maybe someone called you during that time who you have an unresolved issue with, or a situation may have happened in a similar pattern but, with different people? Are these situations karmic lessons we need to learn? If so, we need to rewrite the ending, otherwise, the universe will continue to bring the lesson back until we finally create the change.

Cancer is a planet ruled by the Moon and anytime we have a Full or a New Moon in Cancer, the energies are enhanced. Cancer becomes “at home” and with this New Moon, Cancer is in the heart, it’s center – exactly when it is the most powerful. Its themes include family and emotions – these qualities are rising so we tend to be more emotional and more sensitive around them.

Cancer energy is connected to the feminine energy with the archetype of the Mother. Ask yourself – “how do I mother myself? How do I mother others?” Maybe journal about your personal self-care self-love, family, nesting and maternal protection.

Dig deeper into these concepts and consider how much do you trust your heart? Your inner call? Then look at similar patterns in life, in jobs, and in relationships and ask, “why do I repeat these patterns do they make me happy?” Is it the desire of my heart to continue in these patterns, or am I doing what I am told by society and family expectations? More importantly, what am I willing to change?”

The cherry on top of this New Moon? The moon is also conjunct with Venus. The goddess, the planet of love and prosperity, relationships, finance, enjoyment of life, pleasure of life.

Venus enters the sign of Leo on July 11th.

This is an amazing time to start a relationship, get out of your rut and enjoy life. Connect with your feminine energy – regardless of whether you are a man or women.

One more cherry? Uranus conjuncts Mars – energy of sudden changes, but solid changes. Mars is motivation and a planet of awakening. Mars gives us the motivation to change that which Saturn identifies needing change – what we have become not because we have followed our heart but mistakenly thought we were supposed to come. Sudden changes are a wakeup call. Heed the advice of these planets, don’t fear it.

What has happened in your life since the new moon? what themes have been rising for you?

The energy of this New Moon can be felt for another couple of weeks and for those who are Cancer or have Cancer in their charts, they will feel it for another few months.

What I love about our Moon phases is the continued opportunity to become self-aware, wake us up out of the day-to-day illusion of life, and embrace of who we are right now and who we want to become, (and in this case) versus who society expects us to be.

In love and light,

Kathleen
